The family of Ridgemont Highlands’ promising stallion Potala Palace is seldom out of the news for long, and it was once again to the fore on the first day of the 2019 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 on Tuesday.

A Frankel colt (Lot 181) out of Auld Alliance was knocked down to MV Magnier for 700 000 guineas on Tuesday, making the Pier House Stud consigned yearling Tuesday’s fifth top colt sold at Tattersalls.

Auld Alliance herself is a stakes placed Montjeu half-sister to G1 2000 Guineas winning sire Golan and the latter’s G2 Dante Stakes winning full-brother Tartan Bearer, and her granddam Scots Lass is also granddam of both Potala Palace and the latter’s high-class half-sister Front And Centre. The latter, winner of last season’s G1 World Sports Betting Fillies Guineas, made a big impression when winning last Saturday’s G3 Diana Stakes to confirm her status as one of the best fillies currently in training in South Africa.

A son of Singspiel, and winner of the G1 Premier’s Champion Stakes at two, Potala Palace made an instant impression with his first two crops impressing.

From his first crop of only 30 runners, Potala Palace had 17 first crop winners including G1 sprinter Palace Chapel, feature race winner Dalai’s Promise, G3 Man O’War Sprint second Russian Prince, and exported G3 BMW Politician Stakes second Senatla.

His second crop, now three-year-olds, is headed by G3 winners Singforafa and Palace Of Dreams, with Potala Palace’s second crop also including G1 Thekwini Stakes third Snow Palace.
