The Sandown Stud based Pathfork, a half-brother to this year’s classic winner War Of Will, has made a brilliant start to the 2019-2020 racing season.

The former Irish champion, and G1 Vincent O’Brien National Stakes winner, is currently fifth on the South African General Sires List for this season, with Pathfork’s runners thus far having earned over R1.1 million.

This places Pathfork above such notable stallions as Twice Over, Gimmethegreenlight, Master Of My Fate, Querari, Dynasty and Captain Al –heady company indeed!

Remarkably, Pathfork has achieved his placing despite having been represented by just 48 runners –far fewer than Silvano, Var, Oratorio and What A Winter (the four sires currently above Pathfork on the General Sires List).

His 12 winners thus far, gives Pathfork a strike rate of 25% winners to runners- higher than all of Silvano, Var, Oratorio, What A Winter, Dynasty and Captain Al.

A son of champion US sire Distorted Humor, Pathfork’s recent winners include progressive four-year-old Marchingontogether (KZN Racing’s Champion 3YO Male of 2018-2019), who is regarded as a potential contender for the G1 Summer Cup.

Third in last season’s G1 SA Derby, Marchingontogether recently took his earnings to over R540 000 when running out a fluent winner of a pinnacle stakes (while accounting for graded stakes winners Sniper Shot and Wonderwall) over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.

War Of Will

Other eye catching recent winners for Pathfork include Promise (now a five time winner), five length plus scorer Swagger Jagger, and Gentleman’s Way.

Already sire of such high-class performers as Mighty High, Red Chesnut Road, My Friend Lee and Miss Honey, Pathfork is from one of the hottest families in the stud book, with his relatives including 2019 G1 winners Siskin, War Of Will and Romanised.
