Promising two-year-old colt Toronto, a half-sister to Ridgemont Highlands’ resident sire Canford Cliffs, got off the mark when victorious at Leopardstown on Thursday evening.
Trained by Aidan O’Brien, and ridden by Emmet McNamara, Toronto made much of the running to land the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden over a mile by a length.

The well bred two-year-old had been fifth at his only previous start, and Toronto holds an entry for the 2020 G1 Investec Derby.

Toronto is out of the unraced Marju mare Mrs Marsh, dam of four winners notably five time G1 scorer Canford Cliffs.

Mrs Marsh is herself a half-sister to two stakes winners including G2 Monmouth Stakes victor Triple Threat, and her granddam is G2 Wilshire Handicap victress Triple Tipple.

Mrs Marsh also traces back directly in female line to the French classic winner Diavolezza.

A group winner at Royal Ascot three years running, and, like Sadler’s Wells and Dubawi, a winner of the classic G1 Irish 2000 Guineas, Canford Cliffs is currently responsible for 28 stakes horses thus far, with his progeny having banked over $16 000 000 in prize money.
