Irish Champion Pathfork, currently standing at the Sandown Stud, was responsible for a smart looking trio of winners over the past weekend.

Pathfork’s Mighty High

The son of US champion sire Distorted Humor looks to have a very strong crop of 3yos representing him this season, with Pathfork sophomores including unbeaten G1 winner Mighty High, East Cape champion Madame Speaker and G3 Umkhomazi Stakes runner up Desolate Road.

Another potentially exciting 3yo for Pathfork is Skye Lane, who is held in high regard by trainer Dan Katz.  Bred by Michael Leaf, Skye Lane caught the eye when justifying favouritism at Durbanville on Saturday. The filly, who had been placed on her only two starts, shed her maiden impressively when strolling home by a length and a quarter over 1250m and bigger things look on the cards for her.

Out of Commands talented daughter Queen’s Command, Skye Lane was a R500 000 buy from the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

She was one of two winners on Saturday for Pathfork, with the latter also responsible for Turffontein scorer Twelve Oaks.  The latter, bred, owned and trained by St John Gray, picked up her third career victory when successful by a length over 1200m for in-form jockey Gavin Lerena.

Romanised

Out of Diesis matron Land Of Wilkes, Twelve Oaks, who had made a winning debut at two, had shown plenty of ability as a juvenile and contested both the G1 Allan Robertson Championship and G2 SA Fillies Nursery.

Pathfork’s brilliant G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes winning son Red Chesnut Road gave his sire a treble when he won a progress plate over 1200m at Greyville on Sunday, downing former KZN champion Dawn Calling
Out of the Fort Wood mare Scarlet Sky (and inbred to Sadler’s Wells), Red Chesnut Road has won or placed in ten of just 11 outings for trainers Robbie and Shannon Hill. He was a R250 000 buy from the 2015 Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale.

From the same family as sire standouts Redoute’s Choice, El Gran Senor and Northern Guest (as well as 2018 Irish 2000 Guineas hero Romanised), Pathfork has two lots on offer at the 2018 Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale in Johannesburg.
