Highlands Stud part of Ridgemont’s Gr1 winning sire Pathfork was represented by an eye catching two-year-old winner at the Vaal on Thursday.

Pathfork’s son Mr Flood romped home to score a 3.9 length debut win over 1200m, leaving well-bred Gr3 Protea Stakes entrant Carbon Atom trailing in his wake.

Trained by Lucky Houdalakis (who also handles Pathfork’s talented daughter My Friend Lee), Mr Flood, one of three winners on the day for jockey Karl Zechner, was not helped by having to undergo a lengthy delay before the first race, which only underlines the merit of his easy win.

Bred by Willem Englebrecht Jr, Mr Flood, an own brother to the winning Promise, was produced by the three time winning Jallad mare Last Word Pam.

Redoute’s Choice

His sire Pathfork, winner of the Gr1 National Stakes at two, is a son of US champion sire Distorted Humor, from the same family as leading sires Redoute’s Choice, El Gran Senor and Northern Guest.

Also sire of high class stakes horses Red Chesnut Road, My Friend Lee, Precious Pansy, Harlan County and recent Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery second Madame Speaker, Pathfork will be represented by 12 yearlings at the 2018 April Yearling Sale.

The regally bred sire also has five lots on offer at the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale-including a half-brother to Gr3 Strelitzia Stakes winner Neptune’s Rain (Lot 71), and a ½ sister to G2 Ipi Tombe Challenge winner Demanding Damsel (dam of R6 million yearling Charles) (Lot135).

Pathfork will also be one of the many star sires who will be viewed at the Highlands Stallion Day which takes place on May 25th.
